The city of Yaroslavl
Yaroslavl is the capital of the famous tourist route the «Golden Ring of Russia»; it is included in the top-5 Russian cities to visit on holidays and weekend. For more than a thousand years the city is towering high above the great river Volga. The historic city center is an UNESCO world heritage site. Among the ancient Russian cities — the treasures of national culture — Yaroslavl ranks one of the leading places. It is also an important economic, transport, scientific-educational center of Russia, where new residential areas and industrial parks are built, domestic and international investment projects are implemented.
There are approximately 400 restaurants and cafes in the city, which presents all the diversity of our multi-ethnic city cuisines: Russian, European, Caucasian, Asian.
Since 2012, the festival of the Main Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) of the country is held in Yaroslavl — all the pancake week the guests walk, show the door to a winter and regale with native Russian pancakes!
Yaroslavl is also famous for its lenten cuisine, which was anciently prepared in Yaroslavl monasteries. At the festival of the lenten cuisine one can taste green pies, dumplings with radish, beetroot pancakes, steamed turnips, vintage honey drinks, pancakes with lentils and a huge number of dishes.
In August a large city picnic — a gastronomic festival «Feast on the Volga» is held in Yaroslavl. This year, in frames of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Golden Ring, the gastronomic brand of our city — «YarUshki» — a special form of dumplings stuffed with Volga fish assortment was presented. You can taste them only in Yaroslavl!
